Oil beside the old county town
Drilling began outside the county town’s west gate on 5 June 1907, and oil flowed on 10 September that year. The county government identifies this as the first modern onshore oil well in China. The Yanyi Well Site (延一井旧址) survives among the county’s industrial heritage.
An industrial landscape
Other named remains include the former guesthouse for Soviet oilfield specialists (延长油矿苏联专家招待所旧址) and Qilicun Refinery (七里村炼油厂旧址). Qilicun’s oil-equipment exhibition area (七里村延长油田石油设备展览区) and oil-production plant history museum (七里村采油厂厂史馆) present further parts of this industrial story. Beyond petroleum, apples, crisp pears and watermelons are local crops.
