A temple beneath old banyans

Hushanyan Temple (虎山巖寺), founded in 1747, is dedicated to Guanyin (觀音). Two banyan trees in front are more than two centuries old. A cave beside the temple contains a group of Tiger Lord (虎爺) figures of different sizes. Walking paths run behind the temple, and daylilies colour the adjoining hill yellow in April and May.

Ritual displays and flowering trees

The Hushanyan Exhibition Hall (虎山岩展示館), next to the temple, introduces religious worship customs. Its Minnan-style building has a red-brick exterior. On the slope behind it, plum trees flower around Lunar New Year, creating a white backdrop to the red walls. The temple occupies the position likened to the tiger’s lower jaw.
