Luocuo’s church history
Luocuo Catholic Church (羅厝天主堂) began missionary activity in 1875; land was purchased in 1877 and a church built in 1882. The parish supported education, medical and charitable work, as well as agricultural improvements. In 1930, Father Chen Ruose (陳若瑟) introduced a Western-style band that played for weddings and funerals.
Music and material memory
A silver-and-copper-alloy “Angel Bell” (天神鐘), with a missing corner, and a stone tablet bestowed during the Guangxu reign are among its historical objects. Puxin’s other religious places include Zhongyi Temple (忠義廟) and Wuhu Temple (五湖宮) in Yimin village (義民村), Linxing Temple (霖興宮) in Jiuguan (舊館村), and Wufeng Presbyterian Church (梧鳳基督長老教會).
