Gongweixu Tunnel
Gongweixu Tunnel (功維敘隧道) was built in 1903 and extends for 460 metres. The three characters at its northern entrance were inscribed by Governor-General Kodama Gentaro (兒玉源太郎). Railway use ended in 1998 when the mountain line became double track. The county government subsequently restored the tunnel, and coloured LED lighting was added along the pedestrian route.
Crafts and temple architecture
Miaoli Craft Park (苗栗工藝園區), established in 2011, developed from the Miaoli Ceramics Technical Guidance Center (苗栗陶瓷技術輔導中心). Its crafts include ceramics, woodcarving and rush weaving. Yuqing Temple (玉清宮) in Yuqing neighbourhood (玉清里) provides another view of traditional craftsmanship, particularly in its overall layout, columns, beams and bracket sets.
