Erkan’s village life
Erkan Traditional Village (二崁傳統聚落) has red tiled roofs, white walls, gatehouses, wells and coloured tiles. Reused houses and other spaces display everyday local life. Foods sold in the village include pumpkin cakes, almond tea, fried cakes and grilled squid. Xiaochijiao (小池角), the older name for Chidong (池東) and Chixi (池西), also retains traditional houses.
Basalt along the coast
Chixi’s rock columns (池西岩瀑) stand on the coast north of the village’s Guandi Temple (關帝廟). Nearby shores include beaches and a wave-cut platform at Xueziwei (學仔尾). At Daguoye Columnar Basalt (大菓葉柱狀玄武岩), rainwater gathers in a depression below the rock face, producing reflections of the columns.
