A settlement at the forest edge

The area was once used by the Makatao (馬卡道族) Fangsu community (放索社). Han migrants established homes beside dense woodland, giving the settlement its earlier name, Linzibian (林仔邊), or forest edge. A village took shape during the Qianlong reign. Wax apples and bananas are among the tropical fruits grown locally.

Fuji Old House

Fuji Old House (福記古厝) takes its name from the Zheng family’s grocery business. The brick-and-timber residence has a symmetrical courtyard layout, a gatehouse and a seven-bay main hall. Restored through public and private cooperation, it now serves as Yongle Community’s (永樂社區) arts and cultural activity centre.
