History
Pingtung Academy (屏東書院) began in 1814 on land now occupied by Zhongshan Park (中山公園). Originally arranged with 36 study rooms, a front lecture hall and a rear shrine, it became a Confucian temple in 1895. In 1937 it was dismantled and moved to its present site on Shengli Road (勝利路), following the original form.
What to see
The academy retains the spatial arrangement of lecture hall, shrine and study quarters. At Victory Star Village, an unwalled historic quarter, the Ruins Park (遺構公園) reuses old roof tiles, mosaic floor tiles, decorative window elements, screens and bathtubs. These fragments are incorporated into the site with art installations and lighting.
