A home for folk songs
The Manzhou Folk Song Hall (滿州民謠館) occupies part of the former township library. It gives visitors an introduction to local songs and provides a place where established singers and apprentices can practise and pass them on. A bust of scholar Zhong Mingkun (鍾明昆) stands at the entrance. Having grown up hearing his mother sing Niumuban (牛母伴), he later collected, recorded and helped revive the township’s folk songs.
Grass and seasonal winds
Fields of pangola grass (盤古拉牧草) line County Road 200A (200甲縣道). Around the transition from autumn to winter, the northeast monsoon and local terrain produce the Hengchun Peninsula’s (恆春半島) characteristic luoshan wind (落山風).
