Setting and landscape
Yanpu Fishing Harbour (鹽埔漁港) occupies the right bank at the Donggang River mouth, facing Donggang Fishing Harbour (東港漁港) across the river. Extensive sandbanks line the township's southern coast. Farmland produces rice, red beans, edamame, celery and lemons, alongside fruit crops including mangoes, guavas, wax apples and bananas.
What to see
Chishanyan Temple (赤山巖), dedicated to Guanyin (觀音), stands by the Gaoping River. From the temple hill there are views of neighbouring villages and the river. The temple serves worshippers from both Xinyuan and Wandan (萬丹). The nearby mud-volcano activity has shifted north into Wandan, a distinction from the temple's own location in Xinyuan.
