A monastery founded by Tsongkhapa

Ganden stands in Zhangduo Township (章多乡). Tsongkhapa (宗喀巴), founder of the Gelug school (格鲁派), personally directed its construction in the early fifteenth century. Its principal image is Maitreya (强巴佛). The monastery was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 1961. The buildings extend from a mountain hollow toward the summits, forming overlapping groups rather than a single hall.

Caves within the cliff

Yerpa Valley (叶巴沟) centres on Drak Yerpa Monastery (扎叶巴寺), where caves and temple structures are integrated into the cliff face. Spring and summer bring peach blossoms and gesang flowers to the valley. Its visitor facilities include a highland-barley science museum and the Futian Flower Fields (福田花海).
