Fishing culture

Junba means “fisher” in Tibetan. Villagers traditionally crossed the river and caught fish in hide boats. The Junba Guozi hide-boat dance (俊巴郭孜牛皮船舞) carries that working history into performance: dancers wear small hide boats on their backs and imitate casting nets, rowing and fishing. A high viewpoint within the village looks across the settlement and the meeting rivers.

Leatherwork and riverside leisure

Local leatherwork uses offcuts of cattle hide, which are tanned, carved and coloured to make pendants and handmade bags. Junba’s fish banquet uses freshwater fish from the river. Riverside grass and tent camps also provide settings for lin-ka (林卡), the local tradition of outdoor picnicking and relaxation.
