Monuments at Tanggula
The Tibetan name Tanggula means “mountain on the plateau.” Memorials at the pass include a soldier’s statue, a monument to the Lan-Xi-La optical-fibre cable (兰西拉光缆) and another commemorating a university cycling race on the Qinghai–Tibet road (青藏路). A stone bears the pass’s name and elevation.
Pastoral lake country
Zigetarcuo Lake scenic area (滋格塔尔措湖) has viewing pavilions, herders’ leisure tents and an area devoted to experiencing pastoral life. Nearby are Cirucuo (次如措), Bengcuo (崩措) and Dongcuo (懂措), lakes of differing shapes. The surrounding landscape also includes grassland, natural hot springs, Tibetan antelope and Tibetan wild asses.
