Nyainrong County 聂荣县

Nyainrong County (聂荣县), whose Tibetan name means “argali valley,” lies on the southern slopes of the Tanggula Mountains (唐古拉山) in north-central Nagqu (那曲). Its high pastoral landscape averages around 4,700 metres in elevation and borders Qinghai (青海).

Pastoral work and hot springs

Gaque Pasture (嘎确牧场) presents herding and the making of livestock products as part of local working life. Nyima Township (尼玛乡) has Yuzhai Hot Spring (玉寨温泉), alongside the Buddhist site of Sangwa Rizhui (桑瓦日追). Nyainrong County’s tourism bureau also describes displays of Qiangtang (羌塘) grassland handicrafts and pastoral products within its tourism development.

Piwu Cisong’s peaks

Piwu Cisong (皮吾次松), in Yongqu Township’s Cangqiongma area (永曲乡仓琼玛), comprises twelve Suodema peaks (索德玛). Local tradition associates a small lake with each mountain. Wildlife on the mountains includes snow leopards, and warm springs provide views towards the group of peaks.
