Chaqu’s river bend
Chaqu Township (茶曲乡), in the county’s centre, averages about 4,100 metres in elevation. Here the river forms the bend locally called the First Bend of the Nu River (怒江第一湾), and National Highway 558 follows the water upstream. Princess Wencheng Square (文成公主广场) reflects local stories of her passage along the old route through Chaqu.
A hillside spring
Zhumu Hot Spring (珠姆温泉) is at Maku Village (玛库村). Its source is on the mountainside; the village’s party-branch secretary recalled that use of the spring began in the early 1980s. The county’s landscape also includes the danxia formations at Wutong Village (乌通村) in Chaqu.
