Xainza County 申扎县

Xainza County (申扎县) occupies lake-basin country in southwestern Nagqu (那曲), averaging around 4,700 metres above sea level. Its terrain descends from mountains in the south towards Siling Tso (色林错) in the north, alternating between hills, high mountains and basins.

Lakes, glaciers and wildlife

Xainza County Government identifies Jiagang Mountain (甲岗山), at 6,448 metres, as the county’s highest peak. It has permanent snow and summit glaciers. Wildlife habitats range from lakeside meadows and grasslands at over 4,500 metres to vegetation along the edges of high-mountain ice above 6,000 metres. The county is pastoral, raising yaks, sheep and goats; dairy products and wool are among its local products.

Religious sites beside lakes

Redé Lhakhang (热德拉康), a Nyingma (宁玛派) site, stands beside Siling Tso in Mayue Township (马跃乡). Dongre Monastery (东热寺), belonging to the Kagyu tradition (嘎举派), is beside Mujiucuo Lake (木纠措) in Maiba Township (买巴乡).
