Gamu’s canyon forest
Gamu Township (嘎木乡), in eastern Sogxian, contains a stretch of Nu River canyon and old forest. Spruce, fir, red birch and junipers grow here. The county government lists snow leopards, foxes, wolves, bears, deer and black-necked cranes among the area’s wildlife. Across Sogxian, handicraft products include Tibetan carpets, seat rugs and traditional clothing.
Redeng Monastery
Redeng Monastery (热登寺) stands in Jiangkeka Village (江克卡村), Xichang Township (西昌乡), at about 3,800 metres. Reconstruction was approved in 1985 after Cultural Revolution destruction. Its principal image is a roughly six-metre Jampa Buddha (强巴佛), with thangkas among the important objects kept there.
