Duoba’s birds and grazing animals
Black-necked cranes feed in marshes beside Duoba, while ducks and bar-headed geese are among its other birds. The surrounding area supports argali, foxes, marmots and Tibetan gazelles. Local people call the gazelles “white bottoms,” referring to their large white rump patches; groups graze together on the mountain slopes.
Dongxi’s Heavenly Lake
Dongxi Heavenly Lake (东喜天湖), locally called Yulana Cuo (玉啦纳错), is another glacial lake, near Wujiu Village (吾久村). It occupies less than one square kilometre at roughly 5,000 metres, enclosed by low surrounding hills. At Tibetan New Year, nearby herders walk around the lake and offer white khata scarves (哈达), praying for their families’ safety.
