Painted and sculpted interiors

The temple has three caves. Ceiling decoration includes geometric concentric circles and repeating patterns, while the walls combine Buddhist figures, mandalas and scenes of worship. Lower decoration includes phoenixes, peacocks and dragons. Clay Buddha figures, gilded remnants and tsa-tsa votive objects (擦擦) survive inside; weathering and smoke have damaged much of the older painting.

Chentang’s wooded ravine

Chentang Waterfall (陈塘瀑布) drops from the mountainside on the northern bank of the Pengqu River (朋曲河), near Chentang Village (陈塘村). The river cuts a steep gorge here. Old trees, vines and dense woodland frame the falls, with mist gathering over the cliff around dawn and dusk.
