Jiemayangzong’s ice and meltwater
Jiemayangzong Glacier (杰马央宗冰川) lies among steep mountains, with glaciers stretching through valleys around relatively level high ground. Meltwater gathers into Jiemayangzong Qu (杰马央宗曲), a headwater of the Yarlung Tsangpo River (雅鲁藏布江). The name Jiemayangzong refers to a sand-and-gravel flat arranged in a swastika shape.
Grassland town and local stories
Paryang stands along National Highway 219 on the route towards Mount Kailash (冈仁波齐) and Lake Manasarovar (玛旁雍错). Cattle, sheep and horses occupy its extensive grasslands, and guoxie (果谐) dance forms part of local culture. A local legend says King Gesar (格萨尔王) camped here during a military expedition and built Dare Monastery (达热寺).
