Rivers and orchard produce

The county is part of the headwater region of the Tarim River (塔里木河), where the Aksu (阿克苏河), Yarkand (叶尔羌河) and Hotan (和田河) rivers meet. Dry weather, long sunshine hours and large differences between daytime and night-time temperatures characterise the area. Cotton and fruit growing are prominent; local produce includes mango apricots (芒果杏), Jiuyueju peaches (九月菊桃), yellow-fleshed watermelons and Naxigan melons (纳西甘甜瓜).

Dolan cultural traditions

Dolan culture (刀郎文化) is a central strand of Awat’s identity. Its local traditions include Dolan Meshrep (刀郎麦西热甫), Dolan Muqam (刀郎木卡姆), Dolan rawap art (刀郎热瓦甫艺术) and the making of museles (慕萨莱思). Dolan Tribe Scenic Area (刀郎部落景区) is one of the county’s named cultural destinations.
