Layers, fossils and running water

Dawangou’s rock strata preserve ancient fossils, while unusual rock formations stand beside winding streams and waterfalls. The gorge contains a reference section associated with the base of the Upper Ordovician.

A museum of the county

Camel City Museum opened in February 2025 on a 5,271-square-metre site. Its roughly 4,000 square metres of exhibition space bring together natural geography, human history, geological structure and urban planning. Displays also introduce Kalpin’s Silk Road connections and camel culture. Two main exhibition areas cover the natural environment and resources, and historical culture. Objects, specimens, reconstructed scenes and multimedia interaction provide different ways to explore these subjects.
