Swan Lake’s basin
At Swan Lake (天鹅湖), numerous rivers and springs feed a mountain lake-and-marsh environment in the Bayanbulak basin. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment describes the basin as averaging about 2,500 metres in elevation, with cool summers and abundant aquatic vegetation. Swans and other waterbirds come in spring to breed. A reserve was established here in 1980 to protect the waterbirds and marsh environment.
River bends and viewpoints
The scenic area includes the Kaidu River’s Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns (九曲十八弯). Named viewing places include the Zhakestai Birdwatching Platform (扎克斯台观鸟台) and Baxilike Viewing Platform (巴西里克观景台), alongside the grassland mountain of Tageleng (塔格楞山).
