Felt tiger skins and farming movements

In laohu sheng, the tiger dance (老虎笙), performers wear grey-black felt shaped into tiger skins, complete with ears and tails. Painted stripes cover their faces, hands and feet. Gongs and sheepskin drums accompany movements depicting marriage, harrowing, sowing, transplanting rice and harvesting. Daluo sheng, the great-gong dance (大锣笙), has leaders in grass clothing and wooden masks, followed by dancers who strike and mute copper gongs.

Tea hills and a reservoir

Fabiao Town (法脿镇) lies in the Baizhu Mountain range, rising from 900 to 2,554 metres and sloping from higher ground in the southwest to lower ground in the northeast. Shizikou Reservoir (狮子口水库) has about six kilometres of shoreline. Baizhu Mountain tea is a local product, alongside Shuangbai’s layered embroidery.
