Camellias and temple buildings
Zixi Mountain lies west of the city, with a main summit reaching 2,500 metres. Its range curves from southeast towards the west and then north. Forested ridges surround Wansong Ridge (万松岭), and the landscape includes camellias, old vines and ginkgo trees. Ziding Temple (紫顶寺) contains a mountain gate, Heavenly Kings Hall, Mahavira Hall and scripture repository. Camellias and rhododendrons colour the mountain around the Spring Festival.
Nine storeys of good fortune
Futa Park (福塔公园) stands on Dongshan (东山) in Lucheng (鹿城). Its octagonal, reinforced-concrete pagoda rises fifty-nine metres on the site of a destroyed Ming-dynasty tower. Red-stone carvings on the first-storey exterior depict the four guardian creatures. Inside, each floor presents a different theme of good fortune, including learning, family harmony and virtuous conduct.
