Streets, houses and contrasting buildings
Guanglu’s houses share beams and pillars and stand back-to-back, forming a distinctive street arrangement. Four gateways connect the town to the outside. Longhua Temple (龙华寺), the Yao’an Military and Civil General Administration (姚安路军民总管府), established during the Yuan dynasty, and Gao Xuejun Shrine (高雪君祠), with its French architectural influence, are among its historic sites. Wenchang Palace (文昌宫) contains the locally named Feilai Stone (飞来石).
A bridge with several lives
Disuo Village (地索村), in Zuomen Township (左门乡), has a suspension bridge first built during the Yuan dynasty. The earlier iron-chain bridge was destroyed by a flood in 1959 and rebuilt with steel cables in 1970. The bridge measures about 30.9 metres long and 1.55 metres wide. The village also has a Communist Party history exhibition hall and a martyrs’ memorial tower built in 1987.
