Forty-seven falls in a compact area
Huanglianhe (黄连河) is centred on a waterfall group: forty-seven falls are concentrated within five square kilometres. Fourteen have drops exceeding ten metres. They vary in shape, set among mountains, woodland and caves. The scenic area began receiving visitors in October 1993 and was designated a provincial scenic area in 1994.
Caves, forest and an old route
The wider Huanglianhe landscape is divided into four areas and one sightseeing route. Alongside the waterfall section are the Qinglong Cave (青龙洞) gorge-and-cave area, Luohanba (罗汉坝) forest area and Sanjiangkou (三江扣) nature-protection area. Yuntai Mountain (云台山) supplies the fifth element: a route following an old courier road.
