Four seasons at Xiaocaoba

Xiaocaoba’s landscape includes rivers, streams, pools, cascades, rock formations and peaks among dense woodland. Its sights extend across thirteen rivers of different sizes. The seasons bring flowers in spring, waterfalls in summer, coloured leaves in autumn and snow in winter. Tianma (天麻) is a local speciality, used in a range of foods presented as part of the county’s tourism.

Inscriptions and living traditions

Elsewhere in Yiliang are the Ming- and Qing-period Shoushan Cliff Inscriptions (瘦山石摩崖), old buildings in Niujie (牛街), and the late-Qing Long Family Manor (陇氏庄园). Local performance traditions include duangong theatre (端公戏), Yi (彝族) ceremonial drinking songs, Miao (苗族) Azuo lusheng dance (阿作芦笙舞), and the dragon lanterns of Niujie (牛街龙灯).
