An old riverfront reused
Zhenhai Ferry Landing (镇海渡) preserves its older dock form. A2025 People’s Political Consultative Conference News report records its former waiting room being adapted as Zhenhai Memory (镇海记忆), a café in a renewed cultural streetscape. Yanjiang Road (沿江路) connects the riverfront with Weiyuan Fort (威远城) and Anyuan Battery (安远炮台), making the former landing part of a broader historic setting.
Documents of maritime contact
A Ming-period county document addressed to a Japanese envoy records negotiations over tribute ships entering the port. Researchers located it in a Japanese imperial library collection. Such correspondence adds a documentary perspective to the fortifications and waterside remains that shape the district’s coastal identity.
