What to see

The Former Heshuo Library (河朔图书馆旧址) stands in Weihe Park (卫河公园). Built on the initiative of Tang Ken (唐肯), then a regional commissioner and magistrate of Xinxiang County, it was begun in 1934 and finished in August 1935 to a design by Yang Tingbao (杨廷宝), one of China's first generation of foreign-trained architects. "Heshuo" refers narrowly to the land north of the Wei River and broadly to everything north of the Yellow River. The building is on the seventh national list of key heritage sites, and the district government notes that it witnessed the talks between Zhou Enlai, Zhang Zhizhong and George Marshall.

The district's other national site is the Tang-dynasty Usnisa Vijaya Dharani Sutra Pillar (尊胜陀罗尼经幢) at Dingjue Temple (定觉寺) in Dongshuidong village (东水东村); the district government describes it as one of only two Tang sutra pillars surviving in China. Provincially listed sites include the Luositan archaeological site (洛丝潭遗址), the Eastern Wei Gao Yongle stele of Buddhist images (高永乐造像碑) at Li village (李村) in Pingyuan town (平原镇), and the Bao Zhang Martyrs' Memorial Hall (暴张烈士纪念堂) of 1924. In all the district has 17 protected heritage sites at county level or above.
