Stone figures on the imperial approach
Stone people and horses line Qianling’s spirit way. Among the monuments are the Wordless Stele (无字碑), stone lions and sixty-one figures traditionally known as the foreign dignitaries. The latter stand north of the inner enclosure’s southern gate, their hands held together before them; their heads have been lost.
Painted diplomacy and county food
The Guest Envoys mural (客使图), excavated from the tomb of Crown Prince Zhanghuai (章怀太子), depicts three officials receiving three differently dressed envoys. Beyond the imperial site, the county’s named food quartet, the Four Treasures of Qianzhou (乾州四宝), comprises guokui flatbread (锅盔), dried noodles (挂面), chasu pastry (馇酥) and tofu pudding (豆腐脑).
