Waterfall and forest
Hukou sits in the Qin–Jin Grand Canyon (秦晋大峡谷), with Yichuan on its western side. The two provinces jointly achieved national 5A scenic-area status for the waterfall in 2022. Elsewhere in Yichuan, Mangtou Mountain National Forest Park (蟒头山国家森林公园) features natural forest, wildlife and geological remains. Lacebark pine and linden are among the county’s trees, while protected wildlife includes otters and brown-eared pheasants.
Orchards, arts and routes
Apples are a local orchard crop. The county’s performing arts include Yichuan Puju opera (宜川蒲剧), chest-drum performance (宜川胸鼓) and Hukou dougu drumming (壶口斗鼓); embroidery is another local craft. The Haoji Railway (浩吉铁路) passes through the county, as do the Qinglan Expressway (青兰高速) and Yulan Expressway (榆蓝高速).
