Fuzhou Old City
Fuzhou Old City (府州古城) was founded during the Five Dynasties period. Built against the hills beside the river, the stone city contains Ronghe Academy (荣河书院), Wenxing Pavilion (文星阁), a Confucian temple (文庙) and a City God temple (城隍庙). Its surviving defensive features include the southern gate enclosure and a water gate.
Fossils inside the Confucian temple
Fugu Palaeontology Fossil Museum (古生物化石博物馆) occupies Minglun Hall (明伦堂) within the old city’s Confucian temple. Its two exhibition sections present fossils and cultural objects. Fossil displays include rhinoceros remains, a fish fossil, wild-cattle horn fossils and plant fossils. The cultural display combines objects with photographs of local historic sites, drawing on discoveries and collections made within the county.
