The remains of a capital

Tongwancheng was the capital of the Xia kingdom (大夏国) established by the Xiongnu (匈奴) ruler Helian Bobo (赫连勃勃). Construction began in 413. The site stands in Baichengze Village (白城则村), north of the Wuding River (无定河). An outer enclosure and eastern and western inner cities remain legible in the rammed-earth walls, gates, projecting bastions and corner towers.

Wave Valley

Wave Valley lies in Longzhou Town (龙洲镇), 22 kilometres southeast of the county town. Its sandstone layers have been shaped by crustal movement, water and wind into narrow valleys and red cliffs with wave-like patterns. Timber walkways and viewing platforms provide views of these formations.
