Cuoka Lake
Cuoka Lake (措卡湖) lies on the river’s western side in Mari Township (麻日乡), 32 kilometres from the county seat and at an elevation of 3,820 metres. It is a freshwater mountain lake surrounded by forest, with Cuoka Monastery (措卡寺), a Kagyu Buddhist monastery, beside it. The surrounding vegetation ranges from dry-valley shrubs to dark coniferous forest, alpine rhododendrons and high meadows.
Larima’s stone-slab village
Larima Stone-Slab Tibetan Village (拉日马石板藏寨) stands in Larima Town (拉日马镇) at around 3,600 metres. It lay on the Tea Horse Road (茶马古道) between Xinlong and Kangding (康定). The village setting combines mountains, water, forest and grassland. Elsewhere in Xinlong, most of the county’s more than sixty lakes occupy plateau surfaces above 4,000 metres.
