Three gates and a temple hall
The old town retains three gates: Linqing Gate (临清门) to the west, Zhanfeng Gate (瞻凤门) to the east and Gongji Gate (拱极门) to the north. The Confucian temple (昭化文庙) was founded in the Song dynasty, but its surviving Dacheng Hall (大成殿) was rebuilt during the Qing dynasty’s Jiaqing reign. Beside it stands the examination compound (考棚), built for candidates from Zhaohua and neighbouring counties.
Fei Yi’s memorial
Jinghou Shrine (敬侯祠), also called Fei Yi Shrine (费祎祠), stands outside the western gate on Zhanshengba Street (战胜坝街). The complex combines a tomb and shrine commemorating Fei Yi (费祎), a senior military commander of Shu Han. The old town also retains a county-office site and a T-shaped street layout.
