The old city

Nearly two square kilometres of these streets survive in Langzhong Ancient City (阆中古城). Zhongtian Tower (中天楼) forms the axis of its architectural layout. The arrangement follows traditional feng shui symbolism, with the Azure Dragon to the left, White Tiger to the right, Vermilion Bird ahead and Black Tortoise behind. Other named sights in Langzhong include Tiangongyuan (天宫院) and Zhang Fei Temple (张飞庙).

Baoning vinegar

Baoning vinegar (保宁醋) is reddish brown, with gentle acidity and a sweet aftertaste. Nanchong (南充) Municipal Government traces its name to the establishment of Baoning military administration in 936 and credits late-Ming vinegar maker Suo Yiting (索义廷) with adding Chinese medicinal ingredients to its fermentation starter.
