Xinfeng Township 新豐鄉

Xinfeng Township (新豐鄉), in northwestern Hsinchu County, faces the Taiwan Strait. Hongmaogang (紅毛港) was its former local name. The present name, adopted in 1956, combines characters from Xinzhuangzi (新庄子) and Cuifengzhuang (萃豐莊), two earlier settlements.

Wetlands and coastal places

Hongmaogang’s recreation area is also known as Xinfeng Wetland (新豐濕地). A mangrove cycle route, the seaview road (觀海大道) and Potou Fishing Port (坡頭漁港) form part of its coastal visitor landscape. Fengkeng Pushu Woodland Conservation Area (鳳坑朴樹林保存區) is another named natural place.

Temples and settlement centres

Chihe Temple (池和宮), founded in 1777, worships Lord Chi (池府王爺). Zhonglun’s Sanyuan Temple (中崙溪南三元宮) is dedicated to the Three Officials (三官大帝), while Shihe Temple (石和宮) in Puhe village (埔和村) honours the stone deity. Xinzhuangzi was the earlier settlement focus; Shanqi (山崎) later became another centre. Xinfeng railway station serves the township.
