Buildings around the old street
Jinguangfu Mansion (金廣福公館) and Citian Temple (慈天宮) reflect the settlement’s land-development and religious history. Jiang A-xin Mansion (姜阿新洋樓) was a filming location for the television drama Gold Leaf (茶金). Other cultural stops include Zhongshu Hall (忠恕堂), the Deng Nan-guang Memorial Museum (鄧南光影像紀念館) and the old street’s well.
Grinding Hakka tea
Local foods include handmade flat rice noodles, vegetable buns, herb rice cakes and tofu pudding. Making Hakka ground tea involves grinding peanuts, sesame and tea leaves. Old houses have also been adapted as cafés. Dried persimmons, taro cakes and sweet-potato cakes are among the traditional foods sold as gifts.
