An old trading street

Wenshui Old Street (汶水老街) was once a main transport route and goods distribution centre. Older houses survive among shops serving Hakka (客家) food. A distinctive local craft is chashou (茶壽), an insulating tea basket made with woven rice straw.

Across the hills

Mingfeng Historic Trail (鳴鳳古道) crosses between Shitan and Touwu Township (頭屋鄉). Originally a Saisiyat (賽夏族) hunting path, it later carried goods between Xindian Village (新店村) and Mingfeng Village (鳴鳳村). The 3.5-kilometre route links Yimin Temple (義民廟) with Yundong Temple (雲洞宮). On the Shitan side, a suspension bridge behind Yimin Temple leads towards stone steps and woodland containing camphor trees, bamboo and acacias.
