Mountains and springs
The township extends through the Xueshan Range (雪山山脈), with Xueshan’s main summit reaching 3,884 metres. Tai’an Hot Springs (泰安溫泉) have slightly alkaline, milky and partly translucent water. Miaoli’s tourism bureau describes their lack of the sharp smell associated with sulphur springs.
Qing’an’s tofu street
Qing’an Tofu Street (清安豆腐街) is an old T-shaped street at the meeting of the Xishui (洗水溪) and Wenshui streams. Grocers, noodle shops and restaurants line its short stone-paved route. Handmade tofu gives the street its name: dishes include crisp fried tofu, cold dressed tofu, vegetable and tofu soup, herbal stewed tofu and tofu balls. Wooden shop signs are another characteristic of the streetscape.
