Hakka culture and architecture

Taiwan Hakka Museum (臺灣客家文化館) stands within Tongluo Science Park (銅鑼科學園區). Its grounds cover 11 hectares, and the glass-fronted exhibition building follows the contours of the land. Inside are permanent and special exhibition spaces, a Hakka Contributions Hall (客家貢獻館), a library and multimedia facilities. Outside, a broad stepped plaza and a crescent-shaped pool form part of the landscaped setting around the museum.

Taro country

Tongluo’s taro is harvested in October. Fields are irrigated with water from the Houlong River (後龍溪); Miaoli’s tourism bureau describes the cooked taro as soft and floury in texture. The township’s name is shortened from the older place name Tongluowan (銅鑼灣).
