Reservoir and islands

The reservoir was formed by damming a gorge where the Shitan Stream (獅潭溪) cuts through the Bajiaodong Range (八角崠山脈). Bridges link Rixin Island (日新島) to its surroundings. Yongchun Temple (永春宮), on an island in the reservoir, dates from 1847; originally called Haitang Temple (海棠宮), it took its present name in 1860. Beside it, the roughly 400-metre Minghu Sudi Trail (明湖蘇堤步道) passes dawn redwoods, weeping willows and cherry trees.

Tea with ripe-fruit aromas

Touwu produces Pengfeng tea (椪風茶), a deeply oxidised style of partially oxidised tea. Its liquor is amber, with a rich, mellow sweetness and ripe-fruit aroma. The district also has a long association with Laotianliao tea (老田寮茶).
