A clan hall between river and hills
Pengcheng Liu Ancestral Hall (彭城劉氏宗祠) stands in Sihu Village (四湖村), in front of Ruihu Elementary School (瑞湖國小). First built in 1760, it honours Enkuan (恩寬公), the founding ancestor in Taiwan, and subsequent generations of the clan. Guanyin (觀音) and the Earth God (福德正神) are also worshipped. The three-sided courtyard building has green glazed roof tiles and swallowtail ridges, with the Xihu River (西湖溪) alluvial plain before it and hills behind.
Pomelo country
Wendan pomelos (文旦), including the Madou variety (麻豆品種), are a local crop. Hudong Leisure Agriculture Area (湖東休閒農業區) offers a setting for experiencing the township’s orchards and rural landscape.
