An air-force family village

Air Force Sanchong First Village (空軍三重一村) developed around anti-aircraft positions. Japanese forces built six gun emplacements here during the war, and family housing followed from 1953. Flood and typhoon damage led to successive alterations. Restoration completed in 2019 turned the settlement into the New Taipei Military Dependents’ Village Cultural Park (新北市眷村文化園區), focused on preserving and interpreting village culture.

Animals on the embankment

Xionghousen Playground (熊猴森樂園) occupies four hectares within the metropolitan park. Its play structures take forms from Taiwanese wildlife: a Mikado pheasant slide, a blue-magpie climbing net, a landlocked-salmon climbing structure and a black-bear swing. Information panels introduce the animals’ names, habits and size.
