A name associated with sunrise
Paiwan (排灣族), Amis (阿美族), Rukai (魯凱族) and Han (漢人) communities live in the township. National Taitung University (國立臺東大學) records a Paiwan explanation of the name Ja.Bau.Li as the place where the sun rises, recalling dawn over the sea. Duoliang Village (多良村) includes the communities of Calavig (多良部落) and Tjatjigel (大溪部落).
Farms, springs and the coast
Sugar apples, daylilies and tea are major local agricultural products. Jinzhenshan Leisure Agriculture Area (金針山休閒農業區) is one of the township’s farming-related sights. Other places listed by the university include Jinlun Hot Spring Scenic Area (金崙溫泉風景區), Sanhe Seaside Park (三和海濱公園), the Millennium Dawn Memorial Park (千禧曙光紀念園區) and Duoliang Railway Station (多良火車站). Residents also work in fishing and tourism.
