Stone steps to a summit lake

An old stone stairway winds upward through cliffs and forest. Along the ascent are the Welcoming Pine (迎客松), Sunrise Pavilion (观日亭) and Snake Head Rock (蛇头岩). The steps lead to Pingding Jade Lake (平顶玉湖) on the mountaintop, surrounded by pines and cypresses. An adventure course in the nearby pine woodland includes suspended bridges, balance ladders and log swings.

Hydrangeas and an imperial legend

Summer hydrangeas grow among the mountain’s classical gardens and carved architectural details. Zhengxu Temple (正续禅寺) is linked to a legend that the Jianwen Emperor (建文帝) escaped from Nanjing (南京) and became a monk here after the Jingnan Campaign (靖难之役). Many of its buildings, inscriptions and plants are associated with that imperial story.
