Phoenix Valley’s karst landscape

Phoenix Valley (凤凰谷), in Wulong Zhuang Township (五龙壮族乡), is a nationally rated 4A scenic area. Its core area covers fourteen square kilometres at an average elevation of about 1,000 metres. The landscape is karst, with a mild seasonal climate. The county also forms part of the Yunnan–Guangxi–Guizhou (滇桂黔) rocky-desertification region.

Festivals in the valley

Phoenix Valley has hosted the Sanyuesan Flower Rice Festival (三月三·花饭节), along with traditional singing and dancing. Its event programme has also paired Phoenix Valley with Junzi Mountain (菌子山) for an outdoor sports challenge. These celebrations bring the local ethnic communities’ food and performance traditions into the scenic area, where regional folk culture is part of the visitor experience.
