Bamei and the northern countryside

Bamei Town lies north of the county town, with its administrative centre 29 kilometres away. Bamei Village is the core of Bamei Shiwai Taoyuan Scenic Area (坝美世外桃源). The surrounding landscape is karst, and the village retains wooden ploughs and wooden water wheels for irrigation. Other named resources in the township include the tree-fern forest at Nadong (那洞) and Dayin Cave Site (大阴洞遗址).

Rice fields and Zhuang customs

The Zhuang name Bamei means a cave mouth in the forest. Rice-growing culture accompanies traditions such as Sanyuesan (三月三) and Nongyawai (弄娅歪). Fruit, tea and oil-tea camellia are leading local crops, with Babao rice (八宝米) also grown in the township.
