Rivers at the county edges
The Qingshui River (清水江) separates Qiubei from Guangnan (广南) to the east. Across the Nanpan River (南盘江) to the west lie Mile (弥勒) and Luxi (泸西). These boundaries place the county between the Wenshan region, the Honghe (红河) area and the northern neighbours of Shizong (师宗) and Xilin (西林).
Lotus waters and painted faces
Puzhehei’s lotus ponds spread beside karst peaks, with flowers lining the lakeshore in summer. Its wild lotus is described as tolerant of deep water, with the wider flowering season running from June to September. The county’s account links the Yi (彝族) Hualian Festival (花脸节) to smearing faces with soot to drive away harmful spirits; participants now exchange painted faces as a wish for good fortune.
