A tyre factory becomes a museum
The Yimen Copper Mine Exhibition Hall (易门铜矿展示馆) was inaugurated on 16 September 2026. Its general and equipment galleries occupy converted warehouses of the former mining bureau’s tyre-retreading factory, retaining the buildings’ industrial fabric. The general gallery follows the mine from its establishment and construction through mining-town life and later transformation. Physical exhibits, interactive displays, a chronological corridor and a small theatre tell stories of three generations of miners.
The production chain in machines
The equipment gallery focuses on the period from 1953 to 2003. Fourteen original machines, including a rock drill and a radial drilling machine, are arranged around the production chain: exploration, extraction, transport, mineral processing, smelting and supporting operations. The displays connect the machinery with miners’ personal experiences.
